Waka, Tanka, Haiku (Japanese Poetry)

Composed in the 5-7 syllable meter, Japanese poetry has a popularity that transcends time. Retired Emperor Gotoba was an accomplished poet in his own might and through his literary undertakings he brought the island and the capital together. 

We hope to provide an opportunity for the local people to become acquainted with Japanese poetry.
